John C. Smith was born in North Carolina in August of 1815. The first definitive record of John is a marriage record for John Smith and Ann Eliza Lee in Guilford County, North Carolina.

By 1870 the family has made the trek to Texas. The 1870 census show the Smith family in residence in Falls County, Texas. The birthplace and ages of the children show that the Smiths left North Carolina sometime around 1858. They were present in Georgia around 1860 when their daughter Mary was born. By about 1863 the family had moved to Texas where "Marsillia" was born.

Living in the home in 1870 are

John Smith, 51, North Carolina, Farmer

   Eliza Smith, 44, North Carolina

   Mira Smith, 19, North Carolina

   George Smith, 15, North Carolina

   Louisa Smith, 12, Georgia

   Marsilla, 7, Texas

   Curry, 5, Texas

In 1880 the family has moved to Tarrant County in North Texas. "Dilly" or Marsilla and Carrie are living with their parent. George Smith and his family are living nearby. It appears that there are two census records of the George C. Smith family. The first enumeration is on June 22 and 23. The second enumeration in October. In the latter enumeration, a laborer is no longer present in the John Smith home.

In 1900 John Smith is living with his daughter Myra and Son-in-law Asa Wolf in the Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. He is listed as a widower. This is the last record found of John Smith and he is presumed to have died prior to 1910 census.
