James Little born 1801, died September 22, 1845. James was born in Georgia. When a young man he immigrated to Clark County, Arkansas, and there married Nancy Gentry, a native of Nashville, Tennessee. She was born in 1802 and came with her parents to Clark County.

After his Marriage James Little and his wife moved to Washington County in 1828 where they engaged in farming and stock raising.  He was left a widower in 1840, with four sons, and three daughters. Their children were John Little, Martha Caroline, Malinda Catherine, James, William, Nancy Angeline, and Samuel Rector.

James then married Elizabeth Franklin, who bore him two sons, Ewin Mason Little and Ambrose H. Seluse Little.

James was a democrat and in religion a Primitive Baptist, as was his first wife. Elizabeth Franklin Little was at the time still living and is a Methodist.

The death of James Little occurred in 1845 and was much mourned by his friends and acquaintances. James was one of the first settlers of what was known as Price Township in Northwest Arkansas, Washington County, in Summers, Arkansas.

James Little first wife Nancy Gentry was a full-blood Cherokee Indian. He married his second wife, Elizabeth Franklin, about 1842. Elizabeth was born on December 27, 1824, in Tennessee. She died March 14, 1890 and is buried at the Ganderville Cemetery at Summers, Arkansas. James died on September 22, 1945. The men of the community would haul their apples off south to sell. They would be gone for weeks. On one of these trips James Little took sick and died. He was buried by the road side and we do not know where. Nancy Gentry Little was buried on the family farm near Summers, Arkansas, at what is known as Ross Little Place.

The census records of 1840 list a James Little family in Illinois, Washington County, Arkansas. Four females and ten males are living in the home. The ages of oldest man and woman are consistent with James and Nancy Little. The census of 1830 records a James Little household in Clark County, Territory of Arkansas with five males and three females. See Nancy Gentry's page for information about her parents.
