There is an picture of Cassandra Carlton's tombstone at www.findagrave.com. The tombstone image clearly shows Cassandra date of death as March 23, 1845. Several other family researchers, including my family source, give Cassandra Hart's date of date as April 28, 1854. Too confound the mystery Cassandra Carlton is listed in the 1850 census as the wife of Leroy Carlton along with children Hezekiah, William, Sarah, Lydia, Albert, and Cassandra's age is given as 42, implying a date of birth of 1808. The image at findagrave.com is from the Hart Hill Cemetery in Callaway County, Missouri. Did Leroy Carlton marry a second Cassandra after the death of first wife name Cassandra? Did the engraver get the date of death wrong on the tombstone? The death certificate of Minerva Jane Carlton lists her parents as Lee Carlton and Casandra Hart, and her birth date as December 25, 1846. An online marriage record for Leroy Carlton indicates he married Susan Martin on February 1, 1857.

The certificate for Minerva, born in 1846, lists her parents as Lee Carlton and Casandra Hart. Sarah Francis Dorris, born in 1843, certificate lists her parents as Leroy Carlton and Chrisandra Hart. The parents are listed as not known on the other certificates.
The death certificate of Albert E. Carlton, born about 1848, died on July 6, 1925 in Jackson County, Missouri, is also available online at the Missouri website. His parents are listed as unknown. This is the right date of birth to be Albert Carlton, son of Leroy and Cassandra Carlton. Albert E. Carton is reported buried in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
