1846 - Elijah Sanders marries Mary J. "Winn" in Bedford, Tennessee. Pleasant Sanders is the bondsman. The wedding is performed by Minister of the Gospel, P. Y. Bowers.

 

1855-1858 - Based on the 1860 Census record Elijah and Mary Sanders relocate to Texas from Tennessee.

 

1860 Census - Elijah and Mary Sanders are living in Lamar County, Texas. Children in residence include John W. (11), Nancy E. (9), Pleasant O. (7), James K. (5), William Carroll (2), and Elijah (2/12). Also Elijah's Mother, Mary, age 60, born in North Carolina, is in residence.  Tennessee is given as the birth place of Elijah, his wife Mary, and the children through James K. William Carroll and Elijah (infant) birth place is given as Texas.

 

1861 -  Wilson Wynne, Father of Mary Wynne, writes to E. Sanders with news of the pending war. He relates that John McDavid, his son-in-law, and husband of Rebecca Wynne, died in December of 1860. Rebecca and his grandson Emerson are now living with him.

1861 - G. W. Wynne writes to his "son" Elijah Sanders and family in Paris, Texas. The letter asks for news from them and relates the war news. It is written from Dyersburg, Tennessee. G W. Wynne is the Father of Mary Wynne. Most records record his name as Wilson Wynne.

 

1863 - Elijah Sanders marries Arsulie Catherine Coats on December 1, in Collin County, Texas.

 

1865 - Rebecca McDavid (maiden name Rebecca Wynne) writes her "sister and brother" - at this point her Sister Mary has died, and Elijah has remarried.

1870 Census - Elijah and Catherine Sanders are residing in Lamar County, Texas. W. C. (William Carroll), age 12 is listed in the home. Children from the second marriage include S. T. (4), C. L. T. (2), and E. J. (1/12). Several children are missing from the list including James K. Sanders, who would have been 15, Elijah Sanders, who would have been about 11, Pleasant O. Sanders, who would have been 17. Nancy and John who would have been 19 and 21 are also missing, although their absence could be explain by them moving on to their own families. No other information has been found on these children.

 

1880 Census - Elijah and A. C. Sanders are living in Lamar County, Texas. The children include Wm. C. (22), S. T. (14), C. L. T. (12), Effie J. (10), R. L. (7), and Thomas (2).

 

1900 Census - Elijah and Arsulie Sanders are living in Jones County, Texas. Children at home include Thomas (21), Ella M. (18), Norma R. (15), and Ruby (9).

1910 Census - Elijah and Arsula C. Sanders are living in Jones County, Texas. Their daughter Ruby (19) and grandson David (18) are also living in the home. Their son Thomas Sanders is listed next in the Census record.
