There is a possibility that Abigal Father's name is Abner. There is a tradition among the Bourland clan to name one child with a name to honor the Mother's family, often the name of the wife's Father. Abner appears three among the descendants of Benjamin and Abigal Bourland. First, it is the middle name of Gabriel Bourland, their son. Later it is the middle name of Gabriel's grandson, William Abner Bourland. A grandson is named Abner Benjamin Bourland. It is consistent that Abner is a namesake of Abigal's family, but it is not conclusive. It should be noted that there is no other source for the name Abner in our family that is known.

In 1840 there are three head of household in Franklin County, Alabama, who first name is Abner. They are

  Abner Tacket (does have daughter who age matches Abigal)

  Abner Johnston (does have daughter who age matches Abigal)

  Abner Farned (has no daughters)

In 1850 there are several Abners listed

  Abner Sacket born in 1804 in Tennessee

  Abner Johnson born in 1836 in Alabama

  Abner Overton born in 1808 in North Carolina (some records have indicate a birth year closer to 1802)

  Abner Overton born in 1841 in North Carolina

  Abner Turner born in 1830 in North Carolina

According to the 1880 Census, Abigal's parents were born in North Carolina.

We do not know for certain that Abner is the name of Abigal's Father. We do not know for certain that Abigal's parents are in residence in Franklin County. It does make sense that Benjamin, born in Kentucky, and Abigal, born in Tennessee, probably met in Alabama, but even that is not certain.
