The Campbellites
Campbellites was originally a derogatory name for a 19th century unity movement among Christian churches that ironically gave birth to three new church groups by the 20th century - Churches of Christ, Disciples of Christ, and independent Christian Churches.
Alexander Campbell was a prominent leader in this movement in the 19th century. Alexander Campbell was disturbed by the restrictive rules of fellowship among Christian denominations and the lack of recognition of the universal nature of the Christian church. The movement was characterized by a rejection of the rules and requirements of Christian churches that were seen as "man-made" rules and a call to go back to the Bible as the only authority for Christian living and practices.
To be called a Campbellites was galling to a back-to-the-Bible movement because it suggested that the group was following man-made teachings. Certainly the opponents of the movement staked their claim that its teachings were from men and not God. While those of us from Churches of Christ might use the term "Campbellite" fondly today, it would not have been fondly received in the 19th century.
