| Most of the Bourlands in the United States
can be traced to "Immigrant" John Bourland who came to America or
was born in America in the 18th Century and William Bourland
(1733-1804) of Laurens County, South Carolina. The Bourlands in America by Carl and May Read was published in 1978 and details the the descendants of John Bourland. The preface to that book is available online at http://reocities.com/heartland/prairie/3022/bourland.txt. An introduction to the descendant of William Bourland was published in the Bourland-Loving Bulletin, Volume XVII, No. 3, 1993. The article was titled "Bourland-Bowling Failies in Western Kentucky" and written by Ernestine Miller Bucy. This web sites details the descendants of Benjanmin Bourland and James Washginton Bourland. Both of these families were contemporaries who lived in Colbert County, Alabama. Colbert County was previously part of Franklin County, Alabama, prior to the 1870 census. Several of the children of Benjamnin and J. W. Bourland moved to Texas after the Civil War, many to Hill County. The Bourlands of Hill County believed they were related but the relationship between J. W. and Benjamin Bourland is lost. A circumstantial case can be made that Benjamin and J. W. Bourland are grandchildren of Ebeneezer Bourland, son of "Immigrant" John Bourland. DNA testing has established that Benjamin Bourlands descendants are part of the greater clan of Bourland's who decended from "Immigrant" John Bourland and William Bourland. Children of Benjamin Bourland who moved to Texas: Francis Marion Bourland, lived in Hill County, Texas Gabriel Abner Bourland, livied in Hill County, Texas Mackey Jane Bourland, livied in Hill County, Texas Juia Etta Bourland, livied in Hill County, Texas Chilren of J. W. Bourland who moved to Texas: James H. Bouralnd, livied in Anderson County, Texas Garrett C. Bourland, living in Hill County, Texas William Calvin Bourland, lived in Hill County, Texas Mary Elizabeth Bourland, lived in Navarro County, Texas |
